Welcome to the Rough Chowder website

Fronted by husband and wife team, Ian McIlroy and Miss Kitty, Rough Chowder have been homing their Cajun sounds around the pubs, folk clubs and festivals of the south coast, whilst amassing a following within the UK and European Cajun community through playing UK wide Cajun and Zydeco festivals. With added influences of blues, rockabilly and lounge, we combine a set of traditional Cajun and Zydeco music with ‘Cajunbilly’ to produce a highly danceable and infectious sound guaranteed to transport you to the bayous of Louisiana.

Mon coeur chante

HastingsA5Welcome to the new Rough Chowder website!

You might have noticed that we have been a little quiet on the local music scene of late but all with good reason, following our trip to Cajun country earlier in the year myself and Ian came back with a new vigour in our hearts of where we wanted our sound to go, so following a few busy months playing in and out of Europe we took a break over the summer to regroup and recruit two very talented musicians.

Introducing Mervyn Wallis on fiddle and Andrew Craggs on guitar.

The last couple of months have been busy practicing new songs for our first gig as a newly formed band on the 7th December for the Hasting Fais Do Do 2 and if last years ‘Do’ is anything to go by it’s going to be a blast again this year.
